Since I started this blog, I’ve been going through all my old pictures, toying with some of them, trying to make them better. These are some of them. I took pre-engagement pictures for my friends Wendy & Aidan a little over 5 years ago with my Nikon D70. I don’t get many opportunities at capturing and composing portrait style pictures in a nice setting with willing subjects, so I tried. After all was said and done, I opened up the shots one by one, and thought, “wow, these aren’t as great as I hoped.”
Over the years, I’ve been learning more about post-processing. I tried a few different processes, hoping to get something from the set. They were all processed from a single RAW — so grateful I had the sense in me to shoot in RAW. I did some HDR work, and decided to leave some color, one sepia, and some black and white. I realize some guides say never to HDR skin tones, but I felt they helped these images out a lot. I tried to keep the tones true to life. Overall, I had a lot of fun trying to get a little better at portrait work–especially since I don’t get many opportunities.
I know these pictures are over 5 years old, but surprise! I hope you enjoyed them and I wish you many, many more wonderful memories in the future! Thanks for the opportunity to take your photos. Had so much fun…including the drive
And I put these sequence pictures together in a slideshow:
I still can’t believe this was shot over 5 years ago, and the family is larger by 3! I hope you enjoy this post.
